7-Jan-2009 Klozur® Caustic Now Available from FMC Corporation
Klozur® Caustic, a 25% environmental grade sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution, is now available for sale from the FMC Corporation. NaOH is one of the primary activation chemistries used in conjunction with FMC's Klozur Persulfate, converting persulfate into the sulfate radical, a very strong oxidant capable of destroying a wide range of organic contaminants of concern. Over the past few years, NaOH has become one of the most favored Klozur Persulfate activation chemistries. With the launch of Klozur Caustic, a single sales point is now available for customers of Klozur persulfate wishing to use high pH as the activation method.
In addition, Klozur Caustic as a 25% solution of sodium hydroxide provides a better handling profile than more highly concentrated caustic solutions. Highly concentrated NaOH may have a very exothermic release of heat upon dilution with water, potentially resulting in splashing and tank damage. At concentrations of 25% or less, much of the heat of mixing has already been eliminated, giving Klozur Caustic improved handling characteristics.
