NOx/SOx Abatement

Air Pollution Control Using FMC Alkali Chemicals

FMC is the world’s largest producer of natural soda ash and a leading producer of sodium bicarbonate. These compounds can be used in a variety of air quality control applications. Please contact dave_smith@fmc.com to find out more.

  • Acid Gas Removal – HCl and SO2 can both be captured by injecting dry sodium bicarbonate into boiler or incinerator flue gas streams.
  • SO2 Removal – wet scrubbing of boiler flue gas with soda ash providing the alkali source.
  • SO3 Mitigation – collection of SO3 by spraying a soda ash solution into a flue gas stream.
  • Fly Ash Dust Collection – soda ash is added to coal to enhance the resistance of fly ash in an electrostatic precipitator.

(SOx/NOx) Abatement with FMC Hydrogen Peroxide

Nitrogen Oxide emissions from stationary sources are subject to ever more stringent standards. FMC has developed a process for using a scrubbing solution of 0.5-1.0% Hydrogen Peroxide and 35-45% Nitric Acid to effectively remove both nitric oxide and nitrogen dioxide. Hydrogen Peroxide can also be used as simple and effective means to scrub hydrogen sulfide in a fixed column scrubber.

Please contact frank_sessa@fmc.com or 1-215-299-5993 for more information on how hydrogen peroxide can be a cost effective part of your pollution abatement strategy.
